Special Notice: To prevent damage to the trails, after any inclement weather (1/2 inch of rain or any snow), the preserve will be closed until the trails dry out. For closure updates, please visit the News/Events page. 

Directions:  Take Highway 78/79 into Julian, to Main Street. Going north, Main Street turns into Farmer Road. Take Farmer Road to Wynola Road and turn right, then a quick left back onto Farmer Road.

Description:
Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve offers approximately 2,900 acres of mixed conifer forest.
Summer hikes to the Volcan Summit are 5 mile round-trip hikes that offer spectacular views from the desert to the coast. Hikes are led by the County Ranger and docents, leaving from the Hubbell Gateway at the entrance to the preserve on Farmer Rd. Bring water, a snack, good footwear and sun protection. Contact the County Ranger at (760) 765-4098 for more details and the latest hike schedule.
