FREE TAX ASSISTANCE AT SELECT COUNTY LIBRARY BRANCHES

February 7, 2013

Select branches of San Diego County Library are hosting free tax assistance programs for residents and families earning less than $51,000 a year. The program is sponsored by the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), the Housing Opportunities Collaborative (HOC), and the Filipino American Lawyers of San Diego. Free assistance will be available from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturdays, February 16 through April 13 at the Encinitas Branch (540 Cornish Dr), Lincoln Acres Branch (2725 Granger Ave), Imperial Beach Branch (810 Imperial Beach Blvd), Vista Branch (700 Eucalyptus Ave), Casa de Oro Branch (9805 Campo Rd #180), and Jacumba Branch (44605 Old Highway 80).

Registration is recommended, but not required, by emailing VITA@housingcollaborative.org. In order to receive assistance, residents must bring proof of identification, Social Security cards and birth dates for themselves and their spouse and/or dependents, financial statements (wage, earning, income, and dividend statements), bank routing and account numbers, and any daycare provider information. Both spouses must be present to sign if filing a joint tax return.

"Having VITA tax assistance offered at the library is just one way we're devoted to serving the needs of our community," said Library Director José Aponte. "Paying for tax assistance is one of many costs that are difficult to cover in the current economy - the County Library is here to help."
