Greetings!

Visit your San Diego County Library this July! SDCL has many programs, and if you don't see one that interests you here, be sure to check out our full events calendar here.
Take the Summer Reading Challenge!

Have you been pausing to read this summer? Take the Summer Reading Challenge at SDCL and win prizes!

Sign up online or at your local SDCL branch through August 1, 2014.

Select your reading goal: 10 books or 10 hours.

Read and record the books or hours you read online or on a paper reading log. Reading logs can be found at www.sdcl.org/src.

Once you've reached your reading goal, go to your local SDCL branch to pick up your prize. Make sure all of your books or hours are recorded first. If you've used a paper reading log, please bring it with you.

Prizes will be available beginning July 1. The last official day to pick up your Summer Reading prize is August 1.

Three branches - La Mesa, San Marcos, and Vista - are competing in a Checkout Challenge to reach 1 million checkouts for this fiscal year, which ends June 30. The branch to reach the 1 million checkouts first will host a party for its community and receive a collection of new DVDs for customers to check out. The Vista Branch raised the stakes with 5 staff members committing to cut their hair into Mohawks if they reach 1 million first - even Library Director Jose Aponte is on board and has committed to cutting his hair into a Mohawk if any of the three participating branches reach the goal.

Standings as of June 17, 2014

     1. Vista - 960,693
     2. San Marcos - 848,202
     3. La Mesa - 804,071

The contest ends on June 30; stay tuned to find out if we reach our goal at www.sdcl.org.
