Sam Halpern, author and retired UCSD physician, will read from his novel, A Far Piece to Canaan: A Novel of Friendship and Redemption, which was inspired by his childhood in rural Kentucky. Halpern is perhaps best known as the source of paternal wisdom in his son Justin's best-selling **** My Dad Says.

Author Tom Stephan will share some of his extensive knowledge about birds, specifically barn owls. Tom has installed more than 28,000 owl boxes for homeowners as a way to bring nature and natural pest control into their own yards. Signed copies of his book, Beneficial Barn Owls, will be available, as well as nesting boxes in several sizes.
