Maintaining roads is a huge investment. The Roads Division's goal is to keep nearly 2,000 miles of roads, 1,823 of which are paved, in the best condition possible.

Road maintenance is more than placing asphalt. We set up work zones every day to clean culverts, grade road shoulders, install drainage facilities, stripe roads, fill cracks and potholes, and do many other road improvement projects. We keep busy grading and spreading decomposed granite on 105 miles of unpaved roads, and maintaining 33,000 traffic signs. We trim shoulder vegetation to keep it from obstructing driver's sight distance.

TIP

Traffic fines are doubled in construction zones. We care about our work crews.
